Medea Benjamin, who received international attention for interrupting President Obama during his May national security speech, will be speaking in CT on July 13 and July 14. She is an anti-drone and anti-Guantanamo activist and is author of the book “Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control”
She is just back after leading a fact-finding Code Pink tour of Yemen, the site of many U.S. drone and cruise missile strikes and the home of scores of Guantanamo prisoners who have been “cleared for release”, but who still are imprisoned in Guantanamo.
She will be in Hartford, on Saturday, July 13 at Real Art Ways, 56 Arbor St. She’ll appear after a showing of the film “Dirty Wars” which highlights Jeremy Scahill’s investigations about secret warfare engaged in by the U.S. government. Benjamin will share the stage there with Rick Rowley, the director of “Dirty Wars”. The Rowley/Benjamin 3:45 talk is free. There is the usual charge for the movie at 2 p.m. at Real Art Ways.
Medea Benjamin will also be speaking on Sunday. July 14 at 5:00 p.m. at the Center Church on the Green just opposite the New Haven Green, located at 250 Temple St.
Upon returning from Yemen Medea Benjamin took part in a demonstration against Guantanamo in front of the White House on June 26. During the protest she was flung to the ground when assisting an elderly hunger striker who was having difficulty walking. More here.
